Tips to Discuss With Your Teen Before They Hit the Road

If you have a soon-to-be teen driver in your household, this article is for you. Teen drivers account for more automobile accidents than any other age group, that's why it is imperative that you teach your teen safe driving habits before they start driving. This will increase their chances of staying safe on the road.

  • Keep your cell phone off. Don't even use the hands-free phone in your car. Distracted driving is one of the biggest causes of car accidents.
  • Turn on your headlights when driving. This help increase your visibility and helps other drivers to see you better.
  • Don't go over the speed limit. Speeding is a major factor in teen accidents. If someone is tailgating you for going slower, don't feel pressured to speed.
  • Don't drive with too many passengers. Ideally your teen should drive by his/herself. Additional passengers increase the risk of causing a car accident.
